Rick is a 17-year-old high school student, whose depression makes every day a living battle. Falling deeper into his suicidal hole fuelled by drug abuse and hatred, he is pushed down further by his personal demon and finally decides to end his life. Once at the brink, he somehow finds the unexpected: hope.

Story

In today’s Berlin, Ricky, a 17-year-old boy, lives his life as good as he can. He does not have many friends, if any at all, he is not very good in school and has a terrible relationship with his parents. Besides being a pothead himself, his best friend Max has a nasty touch for the illegal, which gets Ricky into trouble as well. Ricky finds himself being followed by his own personal demon, Anti. Showing himself usually as a black dressed masked being, but every now and then showing Ricky whom he hates most, by taking off his mask. As life gets harder, Ricky finds himself in a dark hole of his own depressed pitty. He wakes up on his 18th birthday, the first thing he gets is an SMS from his ex-girlfriend who is once again mad at him. Seemingly this day cannot get worse, but Ricky does not care anymore, he lost all energy to live. Ready to end it all he dares confront his demon, only to find comfort in finding himself visualized by the demon, showing him as the one he hates most. Dumbfounded by this event he sees the world through new eyes, realizing he had been the only one holding him back all along.

Filmmakers

Michael Herbers - Director/Writer

Born 1995 in Cloppenburg, Germany. Michael grew up to an American Mother and German Father. By 1997 he was already playing with his dad’s analog camera. Fast forward 18 years, Michael is clinically depressed due to a host of adverse conditions in his environment. He slowly pulls himself away from society, resulting in an uncontrollable downward spiral manifesting in drug addiction and routine anger attacks. He drops out of school after the 11th grade with no formal degree whatsoever. Confiding solely in his therapist and camera. The turning point in his life comes when his aunt makes the suggestion of turning his hobby into a career. 

Charged with the optimism of a newfound purpose, Michael gradually grounds himself and, a year later, ends up being accepted to dBsFilm Berlin’s filmmaking bachelor’s program solely on the base of his portfolio and knowledge. Throughout his education, he has continued to tirelessly push and move towards realizing his dream, and as a result has been able to secure several jobs on feature film sets, as well as high budget commercials and documentaries. 

At age 20, Michael creates “KTown Company Films”, a one-man production company, which to has produced several films for a range of artist, musicians, and companies such as “Domino’s Pizza” and “Mustafa Demir’s Gemüße Döner.” Now it is time for him to look back at his past and be honest about his life. With “No World Like Mine” he hopes to break away from his old habits and enlighten those who are still stuck in them.

Giulio brizzi - Rick

Giulio Brizzi a 2019 screen acting diploma student of dBs Film Berlin. 

Giulio has always been in touch with the arts and the stage. His first love was the piano, which he studied for 11 years starting at a young age. This allowed him to perform various times on the stage of the music competition Jugend-Musiziert. By attending his school’s theatre group in Rome he made his first acting experiences. In addition, he took a filmmaking class which intensified his eagerness to stand in front of the camera.

 

Growing up in Italy, with a German and Italian background, Giulio is a fluent native speaker in both languages. His multiple stays in native English speaking countries (New York (US), Toronto (Ca), London (UK)) enabled him to further master the English language. He also studied French at the high profile German School of Rome.

He is a highly motivated and widely skilled individual who is always eager to jump at the next professional acting opportunity.

Dominic Anglim - Anti

Dominic made his film acting debut in the Irish language film, LIPSERVICE, where he shared a scene with Irish actor, Sean McGinley.   

He is an award winner short film producer with his film, HeartBeat, which will be screened at The Nice Film Market in May of this year.  HeartBeat has won awards for Best Music in film, at The Madrid International Film Festival, where Dominic was the sound designer.  Best Microfilm, at the Independent Shorts Awards, LA.  As well as two special mentions & an award of merit at the Canada Shorts Film Festival 2018.  

 

Dominic has studied the Stella Adler technique with Ron Burrus. Lens-craft at The Naked Face, with British director, David Penn.  He studied emotional training with German acting coach, Francisco Javier Medina & Czech casting director, David Stejskal in Berlin.  He also studied acting for camera with Spanish actress, Assumpta Serna & Scottish acting coach, Scott Cleverdon, at Fundacion First Team, Madrid.  He started his training in Dublin, where he studied Theatre Studies at Inchicore College of Further Education.  He later went on study and perform improvisation with the MAD Improv performance team.  Dominic is a trained public speaker with Frontier Trainings. A seasoned physical theatre stage performer with Chameleon Theatre.   

 

Dominic landed his first lead role in the indie feature, by Bright Blue Gorilla, ‘36 Husbands’ where he played the role of ‘Frankie’ which premieres in Berlin, October 2019.  

He has one director credit for the Patient 108 music video, ‘Guiri Gringo’ that he also acted in and produced for the band in 2018.   

 

A lover of the arts. Dominic is some time musician for fun, he enjoys singing acapella and playing the harmonica. A dancer in contemporary style. A writer & storyteller.  He has toured California as a stand up comedian and is recognized as one of the early organisers of English language comedy nights in Madrid, hosting mics as far back as 2012.
